The Florence School District 1 esports Arena successfully blends competitive gaming with engaging spectator spaces, enhancing both education and community involvement, and establishing itself as a focal point for district esports.
The project involved creating "Friday Night Bytes," an esports arena designed to provide a rich and immersive competition and viewing experience. Aimed at boosting student engagement and community involvement, the arena was intended to accommodate multiple functions, including gaming, strategy sessions, and broadcasting, reflecting the diverse needs of the student body.
The Spectator Area at Florence School District 1 Esports Arena offers comfortable seating and optimal viewing, fostering a vibrant atmosphere for fans to support their teams and enhance school spirit during competitions.
This space is available to the coaching staff, and students interested in broadcasting/live streaming of the event for other viewers.
The team meeting room functions as a strategy room, allowing discussion and review of film, of what went right and what went wrong much like watching film on a traditional sports team. The Huddle Room is also utilized by students needing extra study time to remain eligible and can use the space during practice or after school hours.
The 6 v 6 stage accommodates 12 personal gaming stations. Players are positioned in a way that separates them from the crowd and they have a sense of ownership of each station. Each station has table top power for any device on the work surface and all wiring is cleanly managed.
The coach of an esports team can be existing staff within the school, or an outside coach either of which needs an area of their own to plan and prepare to lead the team.
